Natalya A. Polunina

MD, Associate Professor at the Fundamental Neurosurgery Department of the Russian National Research Medical University named after N.I. Pirogov, Ministry of Health of Russia; Researcher at the Division of Emergency Neurosurgery of the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine, Moscow Healthcare Department.

Dr. Polunina graduated with honors from the I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy in 2005 with specialization in general medicine.

In April of 2012, Dr. Polunina successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis “Diagnosis and surgical treatment of patients with giant aneurysms of the cerebral vessels”.
Dr. Polunina has authored 124 papers.
Dr. Polunina is a member of the Society of Emergency Doctors, European Neurosurgical Association.
Between 2005 and 2006, Dr. Polunina trained in surgery at the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine; between 2006 and 2008, in neurosurgery at the Department of Emergency Medicine of the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine. In 2008, Dr. Polunina started working as a neurosurgeon at the same department.
In June 2013, Dr. Polunina started working as a researcher at the Department of Emergency Medicine of the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine; in April of 2016 – as a senior researcher.
Since her start at the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Polunina was working on the problem o treatment of patients with vascular disorders of the brain.  She regularly presents scientific papers and lectures at international and Russian symposiums and conferences. She has authored more than 120 scientific papers, co-authored 3 books and one training guide. Dr. Polunina trained and studied abroad several times. She has performed surgeries for unruptured and ruptured cerebral aneurysms including in the context of acute stages of hemorrhaging, intracerebral hemorrhages, brain tumors, in patients with atherosclerotic damage of the main arteries of the head (with stenoses and occlusions of the internal carotid artery) and brain injuries.
Dr. Polunina performs scientific research, presents lectures, participates in preparation and teaching of the following educational cycles: “Microsurgical treatment of cerebral aneurysms. Basic course”, “Surgical revascularization of the brain”, “Main craniobasal approaches”, “Revascularization in surgery of the cerebral aneurysms”, “Epilepsy surgery. Dissection of the white matter of the brain.”  
Dr. Polunina’s neurosurgical priorities lie in surgical treatment of cerebral aneurysms, surgery of stenoses and occlusions of the brachiocephalic arteries, surgical revascularization of the brain in acute and chronic ischemia, neuro-oncology, surgery of the base of the skull.
