In 1992, Dr. Gulyaev graduated from the Leningrad Order of the Red Banner of Labor Pediatric Medical Institute with specialization in pediatrics.
During his studies at the institute in 1988, Dr. Gulyaev worked as an orderly, in 1989 – as a nurse at the 14th Neurosurgical Division of the City Hospital No. 17 (In the Memory of 25th of October). Immediately after graduation, Dr. Gulyaev became a neurosurgeon at the same division.
Between 1994 and 2001, Dr. Gulyaev worked as a researcher-neurosurgeon at the Neuro-oncology Department of the Polenov Russian Research Institute of Neurosurgery.
In 1999, Dr. Gulyaev successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis “Multiple intracranial meningiomas: clinical picture, diagnosis and treatment.”
Between 2001 and 2012, Dr. Gulyaev worked as a head researcher-neurosurgeon at the Division of Tumors of the Spinal Cord and the Brain of the Polenov Russian Research Institute of Neurosurgery.
In 2011, Dr. Gulyaev successfully defended his Doctor of Medical Sciences dissertation “Surgical treatment of tumors of the base of the posterior cranial fossa.”
Between 2012 and 2013, Dr. Gulyaev worked as the leading researcher-neurosurgeon at the Division of Surgery of Tumors of the Spinal Cord and the Brain No. 2 of the same institute; between 2013 and 2015 he served as the head of the division.
Since 2015, Dr. Gulyaev has worked as the head researcher of the Scientific Research Laboratory of Integrative Neurosurgical Technologies at the Polenov Russian Research Institute of Neurosurgery.
For more than a decade, Dr. Gulyaev has been developing and implementing original surgical technologies to save lives of patients who previously were considered incurable. Dr. Gulyaev perfected current surgical techniques of treatment of the brain and the spinal cord tumors.
Dr. Gulyaev has authored more than 250 scientific papers and 18 patents.
